About General Medicine Services at Dandenong Hospital, Monash Health

Monash Health is the largest public health service in Victoria, employing over 19,000 people across a range of specialities.

Dandenong Hospital is a 520 bed acute hospital in the heart of the growth corridor in the south east of Melbourne providing excellent patient centred care to a diverse multi-cultural community.

Dandenong Hospital’s General Medicine services provide a unique combination of either acute or sub-acute, general medical and surgery across various wards.

Our General Medicine Units include:-

  • South West 4 is a 36 bed General Medicine ward admitting patients with, but not limited to renal, cardiac and respiratory conditions with a focus on telemetry Management.  It is one of two wards in Monash Health to have initiated a Ward Governance Structure.  The governance team have a focus on adapting innovative change to effect and provide exceptional care to our patients.  Under the governance team structure, Registered Nurses will be encouraged to communicate in harmony with Medical, Allied Health and Pharmacy leads to implement care plans.
  • West 4 is a 40 bed Acute General Medicine ward responsible for the management of a wide range of illnesses including, but not limited to endocrine, respiratory and renal conditions and is one of multiple wards within Monash Health to have established a Ward Governance model.  Ward Governance is a method in which all members of the team, collaborate and direct care in consultation with the patients care goals and beliefs. This ward is currently supporting patients who are COVID positive, and you will be contributing to this important public health response effort. West 4 additionally manages Wellness and Recovery, caring and treating patients with eating disorders
  • West 2 is a unique 30 bed ward that specialises in General Medicine with a focus on complex discharge planning supported by a strong team committed to ensuring safe and successful discharges.  West 2 received patients needing treatment for respiratory and renal conditions and cognitively impaired patients.
  • South West 2 is a 20 bed General Medical ward.  Newly developed, South West 2 is wishing to recruit a wide range of skilled staff with varied years of experience to join the team.  South West 2 is focused on developing a new team providing increased educational support to employees.  Team members were recently engaged in SURGE workforce management, trained, and delivering care to Covid positive patients in ICU.  Education received has been a pathway for many members to upskill and take on TSP programs in critical and emergency care.

Opportunities Available

We are seeking suitably qualified and passionate Registered Nurses with demonstrated experience in acute or sub-acute, general medical and/or surgical to join one of our General Medicine Wards at Dandenong Hospital.

Full, Part Time and Fixed Term opportunities available with availability to work across 24/7 rotational shifts

We encourage engagement in professional development activities including, but not limited to undertaking Post Graduate Certificates with application to Medical/Surgical Transition into Specialty Practice.  On-site education and access to Clinical Educators and Clinical Coaches is also available.

What You Need

  • Relevant Postgraduate Qualifications
  • Current clinical nursing experience in acute/sub-acute, general and/or surgical nursing
  • Clinical experience in telemetry, cardiac monitoring/respiratory or renal, ideal
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Ability to work legally in Australia
  • An advocate of Monash Health’s Strategic Guiding Principles 
  • Flexibility to work a minimum of 0.6EFT across a 24/7 rotating roster
