Social Workers at Monash Children’s Hospital sit within the Monash Children’s Hospital Allied Health Team, providing specialised services to infant and paediatric patients and their families. Social work services are provided in inpatient settings (including Paediatric ICU), Children’s Cancer Centre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, ambulatory care services (endocrinology and diabetes) and via the statewide Paediatric Palliative Care Program and the Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service.

A bit about this role

The Profession Lead Social Worker is responsible for leading the social work team within Monash Children’s Allied Health. You will be a peer recognised clinical expert in the areas of Vulnerable Children and Children with Disability (including the interface between healthcare settings and NDIS and DHHS) and responsible for the leadership of high quality evidence based social work services across Monash Children’s Hospital.

In addition to maintaining a clinical caseload within Monash Children’s caseload, you will:

  • Provide specialist expert knowledge, training and case consultation in the management of Vulnerable Children to social workers, medical units, state wide services such as VPRS (Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service, VFPMS (Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service) and other Monash Health clinical staff.
  • Assist staff with complex cases requiring escalation within DHHS/Child Protection, NDIA or Monash Health and support staff with specialist knowledge of MOU agreements or legislation to assist with resolution of complex cases.
  • Act as an expert advisor to the Children’s Program General Manager and Directors of Clinical Operations and provide expert support to the General Manager Monash Children’s Program in leading Vulnerable Children’s initiatives and supporting complex disability admissions across Monash Health.
  • Supervise Children’s program social workers including those in state wide services such as VPRS and VPPCP.
  • Act for the Allied Health Manager as required and represent social work and allied health at Children’s Program or Organisation wide committees.

The Grade 4 Social Worker is responsible for leading clinical research and clinical teaching activities, achieving maximal operational effectiveness, developing organisational competencies, and creating strong partnerships within and outside Monash health. This position is based within Monash Children’s Hospital however travel to and work at any Monash Health site will be required.

All Monash Health Social Workers are required to participate in the On-Call Service for sudden and unexpected deaths, children at risk and perinatal loss.

What we’re looking for in you

  • A relevant Social Work qualification
  • Additional relevant qualification such as a masters or progression towards these, with a commitment to their completion.
  • Demonstrated specialist knowledge and skills and significant clinical and/or leadership experience (at least 10 years) in the provision of social work services, (preferably in paediatric, public health or child protection settings)
  • Advanced skills and experience in supervision, training and education

This role is classified as a Grade 4 Social Worker and is paid according to award rates with post graduate qualification allowance as applicable. Part time applications may be considered.
