About Monash Children’s Hospital

Monash Children’s Hospital (MCH) cares for more than 100,000 children per year, providing care across the continuum of paediatric services from birth to 18 years of age.  It is one of the largest children’s hospitals in Australia and one of only two tertiary paediatric hospitals in Victoria. MCH is co-located next to Monash Medical Centre in Clayton and is a purpose-built paediatric facility where clinical services will be delivered in a child and family-friendly environment. 

About the Children’s Cancer Centre

The Children’s Cancer Centre (CCC) Services at Monash Medical Centre (MMC) is an integral part of the new Monash Children’s Hospital (MCH), caring for approximately 30% of Victoria’s childhood cancer patients. The CCC-MCH is also the primary treating team at Monash Health for children who are in and outpatients with haematological conditions. The CCC has an ambulatory care unit, Ward 4C - Reef, that is capable of providing complex cancer care across the disease continuum and admits children with haematological and oncological conditions to the paediatric inpatient units within MCH. Reef provides a range of ambulatory services including medical oncology and haematology speciality clinics, nurse led clinics, multidisciplinary clinics and a day treatment service.

We are now looking for a highly motivated professional to join our team as a Clinical Research Nurse.

About the Role

You will work collaboratively with a high performing multi-disciplinary team. You will help support the implementation, monitoring and contribution to clinical trials available for children and adolescents with brain tumours, as part of the overarching paediatric oncology clinical trial program. Your role will work collaboratively with the Lead Clinical Trials Coordinator and the Brain Tumour Clinical Research Associate (CRA) to fulfil the deliverables associated with the Financial Markets Foundation for Children’s Brain Cancer Clinical Trial Program funding.

Specifically, you will focus on patient related aspects of central nervous system tumour clinical trials. As a member of the clinical trials team, you will help facilitate the provision of patient/family roadmaps and may assist in consent processes/family education. Further, you will work closely with the CRA to support the conduct of central nervous system tumour clinical trials within the CCC at MCH by assisting to ensure that all ethics committee submission requirements are fulfilled, that all required data is collected and disseminated in a timely manner to the appropriate sponsors and that children are enrolled onto appropriate trials. Cooperation and liaison is required with the CCC-RCH Clinical Trials unit to coordinate the clinical trial activity for shared care patients.

Specifically you will:

  • Promote and facilitate the enrolment of children and young people newly diagnosed with central nervous system tumours onto appropriate trials.
  • Provide patient roadmaps for all patients enrolled on central nervous system tumour clinical trials
  • Assist the CRA in timely data extraction, collection and reporting for children/adolescents with cancer enrolled on central nervous system clinical trials
  • Support the conduct of clinical trials based on Good Clinical Practice guidelines
  • Comply with MH/RCH ethics submission requirements and the regulatory requirements of other research bodies
  • Increase availability and enrolment of children with central nervous system cancers on open clinical trials
  • Contribute to nursing feasibility assessments for new central nervous system tumour clinical trials and associated nursing education

What you can bring to us

If you can demonstrate that you satisfy the following mandatory criteria, we’d love to hear from you:

  • Degree in Nursing with relevant clinical experience in oncology and/or paediatrics
  • Good Clinical Practice certification and working knowledge of ICH-GCP, the NHMRC guidelines and ethics and governance submissions within the Victorian context
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively conducting multiple clinical trials concurrently
  • Strong organisational and rigorous documentation skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving capabilities
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively within multidisciplinary team

Clinical trial related postgraduate qualifications and experience in the set up and management of databases are desirable but not mandatory.
