About Monash BreastScreen

Monash BreastScreen is the largest Reading and Assessment Service (RAS) in Victoria. It provides screening, reading and assessment services for approximately 59,000 women per year in the South Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. The RAS is located at Moorabbin Hospital. There are seven fixed screening sites plus a mobile screening service that visits 2 locations in the catchment. In 2018 2,527 women were recalled to the assessment clinic.

As part of Monash Breast Services, Monash BreastScreen is a key component of an integrated continuum of multidisciplinary care for women from screening and diagnosis through assessment of symptoms, diagnosis and management of breast cancer and benign breast disease.

About the Role

The fellow will work alongside a highly skilled team of radiologists at the largest BreastScreen Screening & Assessment Services in Victoria. To ensure that the fellow gains experience in the full range of breast imaging modalities the rotation will include one day per week at Eastern Health Maroondah BreastScreen to gain experience in tomosynthesis including biopsies and MRI. There will also be the opportunity to attend the Maroondah Multidisciplinary Meeting with increased exposure to complicated cases and discussion.

The position is designed to ensure that the incumbent will be able to report mammograms, perform and report breast ultrasound, assess lesions detected radiologically, including subtle and very small lesions.  Training in breast interventional procedures, such as ultrasound guided core biopsy, stereotactic guided core biopsy and vacuum assisted breast biopsies is an integral feature of the training offered.

About you

  • Must be able to demonstrate an ability to work effectively and productively with a wide range of health professionals
  • An interest in or understanding of issues relating to women's health, particularly breast cancer and population based cancer screening programs is ideal
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential
  • Research design and/or computer skills are desirable

What you need

Passed the FRANZCR Part II examination and completed four years of accredited training

  • Particular interest in breast imaging
  • Motor vehicle driver licence to commute between Monash and Maroondah BreastScreen sites
