About Sterilising Services Monash Clayton and Monash Children's Hospital
Monash Health is the largest public health service in Victoria, employing over 18,000 people across a range of specialities.
Monash Health is an impressive organisation of seven public hospitals, 21 community health sites, five aged care facilities, university affiliated international research and tertiary education. We provide healthcare for the entire lifespan from pre-birth to palliative care and all stages in between, and we have recently opened the new 230-bed Monash Children’s Hospital.
Sterilising Services is responsible for the provision of non-clinical services that includes reprocessing all reusable medical devices required by both theatre suites and wards and department's across Monash Clayton and Monash Children's Hospital.
The role of the Instrument technician is an essential member of our Sterilising Services Team and will contribute and provide exceptional customer services to our patients within Monash Health.
About the Role
The Grade 3/4 technician role includes organising the day-to-day workloads across all areas of the department, decontamination, packing, sterilising and delivery of all reusable medical devices, under supervision of the Grade 5 technician and Nurse manager.
You will ensure that a high quality of patient care is provided at all times in line with the Monash Health icare values.
You will assist in ensuring the equipment is maintained in excellent working order, that there are sufficient consumables available in the department and that Sterilising Services quality control checks are conducted periodically.
You will be supported by the Nurse Manager and Grade 5 technicians. You will model the values of Monash Health and the culture of Patient and Family Centred Care.
Essential Criteria:
- Demonstrated knowledge of instrumentation
- Completion of Certificate III in Sterilisation Services
- Sound knowledge of AS/NZ 4187 2014
- Experience with tracking systems
- Endoscopy reprocessing experience or willingness to learn
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
- Intermediate computer literacy skills - including MS office and various data bases An interest in promoting best practice patient care
- A focus on professional development
- Ability to work across a 7 day week all shifts including night shift and public holidays

About You
As the SSU Instrument Technician your responsibilities will include:
- Thermal disinfection inspection, packaging and sterilising of all instrumentation for theatre and other clinical areas
- Comply with AS/NZ standards 4187 2014 and associated EN and ISO standards, GENCA
- Operate interpret and document all machinery operational requirements
- Report and document all quality activities
- Ensure priority of instrumentation and processes
What you need:
- Certificate III sterilisation
- working with children’s check
- For Grade 4 role certificate IV sterilisation
- minimum 12 months experience
