 About the Role: About Youth Inpatient Unit

 

Unit 2 is the recover focused 25 bedded Youth Inpatient Unit delivering acute psychiatric support for the youth population (under 25). It's located at 125-127, Cleeland Street, Dandenong, Vic 3175. The main service objectives are to support youths:

 

1)            where psychiatric risk cannot be managed in a less restrictive environment in the community in line with relevant legislation (for example, the Mental Health Act, assessment order, temporary treatment order).

2)            to reduce acute psychiatric risk for young people so that they can be effectively supported in the community.

3)            To support a young person's supporting community system in:

-               diagnostic clarification

-               medication management

-               Therapeutic management/containment (planned, respite and so on).

 

The position holder will be supported by senior registrar, registrars, junior medical staff and the multidisciplinary team consisting of nurses, OTs, social workers, psychologist, drugs and alcohol worker and other support staff. The Unit runs several group programs focusing of both mental and physical wellbeing and works closely with several external agencies to facilitate youth's recovery.

 

About Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU), Dandenong

 

Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU) is a sub-acute 50-bedded inpatient unit located in Dandenong Hospital. It provides medium to long-term inpatient assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for people living with unremitting and severe symptoms of mental disorder causing significant functional impairment and often largely presenting with significant disturbance in behaviour that impedes living in the community or other less restrictive environments

 

Monash SECU operates within a recovery oriented framework. Clinical management is structured around individualised care planning that addresses the expressed needs, goals and aspirations of the person receiving treatment.

 

Monash SECU provides service to patients in catchment of four area mental health services in Melbourne including Monash Mental Health. 5 beds allocated to patients living across the State. SECU staff include Consultant Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Registrars, Hospital Medical Officers, Psychiatric Nurses, Psychologists, Social Workers, Family Therapist, Occupational Therapists, Dietician, Speech Therapist, Music Therapist, and Exercise Physiologist.

Qualifications/ registrations/ licenses

 

Essential:

  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Appropriate health professional tertiary qualifications
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists
  • Working with Children's Certificate
  • Credentialing and Scope of Practice
  • As part of the application process, the incumbent must complete the Credentialing and Scope of Practice process prior to appointment and commencement.
