Monash Children’s Hospital is one of Australia’s leading providers of integrated children’s health services, with more than 30 specialist services and programs. It is Australia’s third largest children’s hospital with 304 beds across three campuses: 208 paediatric and 96 neonatal, including multiday, same day, oncology, mental health, sleep, PICU, NICU, special care neonatal beds and 4 operating theatres. Last year the hospital treated 39,000 children in its paediatric and neonatal wards, and 66,000 children in its emergency departments.

Monash Children's Hospital PICU

The Monash Paediatric ICU is a new, 10-bed, state-of-the-art unit that opened in 2018. It is one of only seven tertiary PICUs in Australia and one of two tertiary paediatric intensive care referral units for the State of Victoria. The unit is accredited by the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand and admits over 600 children a year with a broad range of general and subspecialty paediatric as well as surgical conditions.

Monash Health is an impressive organisation of seven public hospitals, 21 community health sites, five aged care facilities, university affiliated international research and tertiary education. We provide healthcare for the entire lifespan from pre-birth to palliative care and all stages in between, and we have recently opened the new 230-bed Monash Children’s Hospital.

About the Role

Monash Health has a very exciting opportunity for registered nurses looking to advance their career and transition into Paediatric Intensive Care. We offer an excellent Transition to Specialty Program (TSP) which provides supported entry to paediatric critical care nursing. The program consists of structured learning, clinical support and six paid study days across a 6 month period. It aims to develop you into a safe and effective practitioner within the paediatric intensive care unit who will be able to provide timely, exceptional patient centred care.

About You

  • you have experience in post registration nursing fundamentals such as medication administration and the use of an electronic medication record system. 
  • you are a self directed learner, curious, inquisitive and comfortable in questioning best practice
  • you support your team and positively contribute to a strong and family oriented workplace culture.
  • current registrations such as APRHA or working with children’s check
  • Other specific registrations or checks such as or working with children’s check
