About Us

Dandenong Adult Mental Health has a unique opportunity for a Grade 1 Occupational Therapist to join our team and work with us in valuing and supporting each person’s unique journey to a life inspired by hope and potential.

The Occupational Therapy Grade 1 will work part of the multi-disciplinary team which includes doctors, nurses, social workers, PSO, occupational therapists, dietician, speech pathologist, exercise physiologist, psychologists, neuro-psychologist, music therapist, and MHCSS (ERMHA Inc.). The Occupational Therapy services within the Unit 4 programme include assessment, treatment planning and implementation for individuals and the group programme. Evaluation of individual and group programmes is also a significant part of the work undertaken. The focus of care is on active recovery and rehabilitation, promoting independence and community re-integration. The occupational therapist staffing of Unit 4 is Grade 3 - 0.8 EFT, Grade 2 - 1 EFT, Grade 1 – 1 EFT and Grade 1 - 0.4 EFT.

About the Role:

The Occupational Therapist Grade 1 will work for a part of the multi-disciplinary team which includes doctors, nurses, social workers, PSO, occupational therapists, dietitian, speech pathologist, exercise physiologist, psychologists, neuro-psychologist, music therapist and MHCSS (ERMHA Inc.). The Occupational Therapy services within the SECU and other programs include assessment, treatment planning and implementation for individuals and the group programme. Evaluation of individual and group programmes is also a significant part of the work undertaken. Focus of care is on active recovery and rehabilitation, promoting independence and community re-integration.

About You:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (OT) or equivalent;
  • Current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA);
  • Eligible for membership of AAOT;
  • A Current Victorian driver's licence is essential;
  • Knowledge of current Mental Health legislation and other relevant legislation and policies and their impact on practice;
  • A sound theoretical knowledge of current Occupational Therapy practices in psychiatry and knowledge of delivery of a quality Occupational Therapy service to consumers within a psychiatric setting;
  • Experience of working individually and in groups with clients who have psychiatric disabilities.
  • Demonstrated competent written and verbal communication skills;
  • An ability to function constructively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, establishing effective relationships with staff, consumers and carers;
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development, performance review and supervision;
  • A willingness to participate in the development, implementation and review of Quality Activity Projects.
